Teeth Whitening
Teeth Whitening has become a simple and easy way to instantly enhance your appearance. A bright white smile creates a confident first impression and generates a more youthful and radiant appearance. Unfortunately no toothpaste by itself can guarantee great results, they only fade external stains. That’s why we’re pleased to offer our patients a safe and economical way of getting a whiter smile in the shortest possible time.
Teeth discolouration can be caused by numerous factors including smoking, ageing, medication, consumption of staining foods and beverages and hereditary factors. Teeth whitening removes stains and discolouration from teeth and makes teeth appear “whiter” through a gentle bleaching process. This method is entirely safe and highly effective; resulting in a stunning white and brighter smile.
To whiten or bleach your teeth, the dentist fits a light bleaching tray, tailor made to fit your mouth. You then fill the bleaching tray with the bleaching agent each day and wear it for half an hour at a time that suits you! Bleaching is carried out for one or two weeks until you achieve the whiteness you prefer. This can work on your whole set of teeth or an individual discoloured tooth.
This cosmetic whitening process is very simple. First, you come for an examination to make sure there are no restoration problems and to make sure that bleaching is appropriate option for you. The dentist will make an impression of your mouth and this will be used to create individual bleaching trays that will fit your mouth exactly.
You will be able to use these custom made trays in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Professional whitening gels is placed in the trays and they are worn for up to an hour each day (or night), over a period of 1-2 weeks. The process will safely and gently whitened your teeth.

Are there any side effects?
The whitening gel we use has been proven to be a safe and effective. It will not weaken or damage teeth enamel. Some patients may experience a temporary enhanced sensitivity. However this is very rare with the gel concentration we use. Should sensitivity occur, we recommend discontinuing the bleaching process for 1 -2 days to give your teeth a rest. The whitening process can then be continued for the recommended period.
Gum irritation can also occur, especially if you have gingivitis and are prone to bleeding gums prior to this treatment. We recommend a thorough teeth and gum cleaning prior to commencing the bleaching process to avoid this problem. A professional clean will also helps to remove any stains from your teeth and makes the bleaching more successful. If too much gel is applied to the trays this can also cause gum irritation, for this reason it’s important to follow the application instructions.
Whitening will change the colour of your teeth, but not any fillings, so it may be necessary to replace some old fillings to complement the colour of your teeth.
